Today is the birthday of a reading series: Syllable, welcome to the world.
Founded and hosted by Julia Pistell, an essayist based in Hartford, Connecticut, the mission of Syllable is to provide an organized space for writers to read their work aloud and build a strong community of peers. It is my hope that Syllable will become a place for emerging writers to experiment with new works and styles, to enjoy the company of others in their field, to practice the fine art of performing an engaging reading, to provide Connecticut writers with the same opportunities as emerging writers in New York and Boston, to expose audiences to a variety of literature, and to bask in the beauty of the written word.
Syllable will convene once a month. The readings, curated for maximum impact by Julia, will be short, sweet, and impressive.
We begin at La Paloma Sabanera on Saturday, September 17th for a kickoff party– with a cupcake-eating contest, to boot!
