A Letter to the Syllable Community

7 Jan

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had happy and healthy holidays, filled with books and journals and the like.

First of all, thank you all for participating in one (or all) of the first four installments of the Syllable reading series. Food, Fear, Family, and Fantasy will never be the same. It was wonderful to meet you all and hear your work, so well written and well read.

Here’s what we’ve got coming up!

There will not be an official Syllable during the month of January. Instead, I’m going to be making a field trip to Real Art Ways’ poetry reading series and open mic, Inescapable Rhythms. Link: http://www.realartways.org/livearts.htm. They hunted me down and asked me to guest-read some nonfiction, and I’m always happy to expose more people to the glories of nonfiction.

Inescapable Rhythms is also an open mic– so that means you all can come and read, too! It would be great to have some members of the Syllable family there, if you’re in the mood. I’m not sure what the time restrictions are, but it’s usually poetry, so I’d encourage you prose-types to bring something short if you can. Or, just come to watch and meet other writers.

That is on Wednesday, January 11th at 7 pm at Real Art Ways.

I’m currently working on setting up the dates for our spring series– tentatively on the third Wednesdays of the month. Themes will probably be Love, Luck, Light, and Labor. (Again, whatever those mean to you.) So get writing!

My goal for the month of January is to hit both 100 fans on our twitter @SyllableSeries, and the facebook page I just created: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Syllable-The-Reading-Series. If you could share these things, that would be wonderful!

Happy writing!
